I was at the Goodwill store in Dallas today, and this really old Mexican lady slipped on a plastic hanger that was on the floor. She fell and hit her head hard on the concrete floor.
One of the Goodwill employees started yelling "Help! Somebody help! Need some help over here!"
A few customers went running over while others began crowding around. The old lady was laying under one of the clothes racks.
Someone called 911 and we all waited for the ambulance. The old lady was trying to get up, and the Goodwill lady kept yelling at her to stay on the ground. "Does anybody speak Spanish?" she yelled. More Mexican people started crowding around, talking amongst themselves and to the old lady in Spanish. The Goodwill lady continued her yelling, "Please! Step back! You guys need to give her some room! She can't breathe!"
A young black woman whispered from the back, "You shouldn't be moving her. There's something wrong with her neck. I have to get my son." Her son was asleep in a shopping cart in the pots and pans section.
I think the old lady shit herself because you could smell shit in her general vicinity. The Goodwill lady kept yelling, "You guys need to step back! She can't breathe and it smells really bad down here!"
The Mexican people ignored her and they started helping the old lady to her feet.
The old lady's daughter, who looked nearly as old as her mother was saying, "She needs to go to the bathroom. She has to poop."
But I think she already pooped. The whole place smelled like shit. I went to the pillow section and got a pillow for her. I handed it to one of the Mexican guys and said, "Tell her to rest her head on this." He took it and clutched it to his chest.
The Goodwill lady was growing increasingly hysterical. After a while, she walked away and got herself a glass of water. She had moved to the edge of the crowd when the ambulance guys arrived.
"I kept telling them not to move her, but she keeps trying to get up," said the Goodwill lady.
"If she wants to get up, let her get up," said the ambulance guy.
The old lady's daughter said she didn't want to go to the hospital because it's too expensive, but I think they took her anyway. They were wheeling in the gurney when I left.
